Research Student Supervision
Members of the CJRC are responsible for the supervision of several PhD students via the cross-disciplinary panel model. If you are interested in undertaking a research degree (PhD or Masters) in a criminal justice related field please email the CJRC.
Seminars/Conferences/Workshops
The CJRC maintains a list of seminars/conferences/workshops being conducted through various Monash University Faculties/Schools/Departments that relate to criminal justice. The CJRC is also in the process of organising its own seminar series. If you would like to advertise your seminar here, or speak at a CJRC organised seminar please email the CJRC.

Research Projects
Professor Bernadette McSherry has recently been awarded a Federation Fellowship. Professor Bernadette McSherry's project, titled Rethinking mental health laws: An integrated approach, will undertake research into national model legal frameworks that will help shape the way in which individuals with mental illnesses can access the highest standard of mental health care.
A team from the CJRC, including academics from the Department of Social Work (Faculty of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences) and the Faculty of Law, have recently received a $50,000 grant to undertake an evaluation of prison-to-community transition programs.
In partnership with a criminal justice research group in Scotland, the CJRC is also involved with a project in juvenile justice in NSW.
Past Events/Activities
Rethinking Mental Health Laws: Developing Model Frameworks
On 19 February 2008, Professor Bernadette McSherry presented her inaugural seminar (Rethinking Mental Health Laws: Developing Model Frameworks) on her Federation Fellowship entitled Rethinking Mental Health Laws: An Integrated Approach. During this presentation Professor McSherry outlined her project and sought input in developing model frameworks. Audience members (from across the criminal justice and mental health sectors) provided valuable comment and feedback.
Forum on the Intersection Between the Mental Health and Legal Systems
In July 2007 the CJRC hosted a forum on the Intersection Between the Mental Health and Legal Systems. The keynote speaker was Justice Richard Schneider (Justice of the Ontario Mental Health Court in Canada). The forum explored how the mental health and legal systems intersect in Australia and how a similar intersection has been handled in Canada.
Member survey
In May 2007 CJRC members were either contacted by phone or email and encouraged to complete a survey on their experiences relating to the CJRC. A total of 13 people completed the survey and their responses are summarised in the attached documet (pdf, 14kb).
Launch
On 31 October 2006 the CJRC officially launched its activities with a presentation by Professor Colin Roberts in the Monash University Law Chambers.
Speed dating workshop
In May 2006 the CJRC held a workshop on the Caulfield Campus of Monash University designed to increase collaboration in the area of criminal justice research and to raise the profile of the CJRC accross the university.
